Yeiko Higa

Yeiko is survived by her children: Ian, Allan (Shirley), Karen (Lee) Hargrave, and Doug; grandchildren: Renee (Terry) Brown, T.J. (Erica) Higa, Jeff (Kayla) Higa, Aaron Hargrave, Leah (Ryan) Moser; great grandchildren: Seth, Jasmine, Kiauna and Crystal.

She is also survived by her siblings: John (Alice) Kanashiro, Dick (Yuki) Kanashiro, Helen (Alan) Low, and Lorraine Sloane; sisters-in-law Min Kanashiro and Velma Kanashiro, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her loving husband, Shucho Higa, Yeiko was predeceased by her son Ivan, parents Yasutaro and Kami Kanashiro, brothers Jim, Ken and Jack Kanashiro, sister and brother-in-law Fumi and Jerry Yamamoto and sister-in-law Fumi Matsuda.

Yeiko, the eldest of nine children, was born in Vancouver, BC on March 14, 1922. Unfortunately, to assist with the family income, her schooling ended at the Grade 8 level. With the outbreak of the war, the family was evacuated to Alberta in 1942. Along with their parents, Yeiko and John worked in the sugar beet fields. The family went through many hardships at this time.

On November 17, 1944, Yeiko and Shucho were married and busy raising five children. As the children grew older, Yeiko was employed with the Royal Fruit Store, Frache's Greenhouse, and Scott National until her retirement in 1982.

She resided at the Blue Sky Lodge and Good Samaritans, where she was always treated by staff with love and respect.

A private family service will be held.
