Yasuko is survived by her three children: Timothy (Lois) and Norris (Brenda) of Lethbridge, and Shelly (Peter) Kutney of Burnaby, BC; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters: Kuniko Ryning, Sumi Hattori and Hanae Iwaasa-Robbs, and one brother, Ray.
Besides her beloved husband, Akira, Yasuko was predeceased by her parents Kojun and Ito Iwaasa, 3 brothers: Toru, Jeaune and Nolan; one sister, Sachie Karaki and one grandchild Carson Kutney.
Yasuko was born February 12, 1920 in Raymond, the third of nine children. She initially attended the Mammoth School and then attended and graduated from the Raymond High School. From 1939 - 1941 she attended a Japanese Language School in Vancouver, and after moving back to Lethbridge she attended LCC and obtained a Teachers Aid Certificate.
In 1943 she married Akira Hironaka and in 1950 they moved to Rosemary where they farmed until Akira's passing in 1972. Yasuko loved Rosemary and the wonderful neighbors and friends of that community. In 1973 Yasuko moved back to Lethbridge to be close to family and she continued to live in the city until her passing.
Yasuko loved her family, church and friends, and she showed that love throughout her life by devoted, selfless service. We will miss her. Special thank-you to the dedicated caregivers at the Good Samaritan Park Meadows Designated Assisted Living Facility.
In lieu of flowers or koden, memorial donations may be made to the Interfaith Food Bank, 1116-3 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 0H6. Friends may meet the family on Friday, November 21, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, or prior to the service on Saturday at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Northside Chapel, 2223-6 A. Avenue North, Lethbridge, with Bishop Robert Bender officiating. Interment in the Temple Hill Cemetery.
