April 14, 1933 ~ June 16, 2015 (age 82) 82 Years Old
ALICE NELLIE PRACHAR BRYAN, beloved wife of the late Sidney Bryan, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the age of 82 years.

She is the loving mother of Judy Parker-Kent (Chris), Susan Goyette (George), Frank (deceased) Barkhouse (Nancy), John Barkhouse (Michele) and Donald Barkhouse (Liane). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; Matthew Mazanec, Jonathan Mazanec, Gregory Mazanec, Jaime Eastman, Melissa Sondergaard, Joshua Duclos, Kevin Barkhouse, Kelly Barkhouse, Gunnar Barkhouse, Eric Barkhouse, Alice Barkhouse, Lara Barkhouse, Christopher Barkhouse, Michael Barkhouse, Byron Barkhouse, Kayn Barkhouse, Jordan Barkhouse and Nolan Barkhouse; as well as 13 great grandchildren; nieces Barbara Brakman, Monica Sliva, Nancy Timm (Bob); a nephew John Sliva and a brother-in-law Frank Sliva.

Alice was predeceased by her parents; Frank and Josephine Prachar; her sisters Vlasta, Mileda and Vera; her son Frank; and her spouse Sidney Bryan.

She was born on April 14, 1933 in Montreal, Quebec as the youngest of five children. She was athletic and outgoing. She learned young to sew, knit and crochet. In school Alice made her own costumes for plays and as early as five years old she would make her own doll clothes. Her fondest dream was to become a Phys. Ed. Teacher. She participated in countless sports and loved her dance classes. After school she worked in banking and as the wife of a military man, she had her five children across Canada, from British Columbia to Quebec. As a single mom, she worked long, hard hours but she still found time to play with her friends. In the 60's Alice moved down to New York with one suitcase in hand to pursue a better life. She met and married her beloved soulmate Sid and briefly enjoyed retirement in Antigua in the West Indies. Upon Sid's death at age 57, she returned to the States and again took up her workaholic lifestyle. Alice retired at 62 and moved back to Canada, first to B.C., then to Quebec and ultimately to Alberta. Alice never lost her love of crafting and volunteered her time to PARP in her later years. She would go and teach the people there to knit or crochet. She would talk, visit and share her story of the amputation of her leg to help other amputees. She loved people and people love her. Her passing will be mourned and she will be missed.

A Celebration of Alice's Life will be held at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.
