ALEXANDER TRON of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Maria (Lasar), passed away after a short illness, on Monday, December 2, 2013.

Alexander was born in Ukraine on December 8, 1931. He endured many hardships as a young child including the Great Famine of 1933 as well as fleeing Ukraine with his family during World War II as the Russian army was advancing. He and his brother and parents immigrated to Canada in 1948 to begin a new life and settled in Lethbridge.

Alexander met and married Maria Lasar in Lethbridge. They worked hard together making many sacrifices to make certain they could give a better life to their children. Maria emphasized to her beloved husband the importance of education in the belief that their childhood hardships could be overcome. Together they raised four children, focusing on their well-being and encouraging the pursuit of higher education. Their children are working in the fields of medicine, law, finance, and not-for-profit consulting.

Alexander worked as a Research Technician for the Agricultural Department for the Government of Canada until his retirement in 1992. He received his post secondary education at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Alexander is survived by his son Victor (Susan Braithwaite) - Sarah (Ken Seeback), David and Christopher; son Lanny (Terry Willner) - Alexander, Katianna and Marika; daughter Sonia (Keith) Attkiss - Nicholas, Sophie and Luke; daughter Kathy (Dave) Greenwood - Jack and Tessa as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews both here and in the Ukraine.

Friends and family are invited to pay their final respects.

Prayers will be said on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge.

The Funeral Mass will be officiated by the Right Reverend Father Taras Krochak on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at HOLY TRINITY ORTHODOX CHURCH, 643-13 Street North, Lethbridge. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
