Scott Jensen Obituary

Scott LeRoy Jensen, beloved husband of Janice of Lethbridge, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on April 30, 2023, at the age of 63.

Scott was born April 16, 1960 in Taber, Alta., to parents Helen (Hyde) and Harry Jensen. He grew up with his two older brothers Richard and Cameron, spending his early years on the farm south of Taber on Horse Fly Road.

Scott loved motorcycles and riding dirt bikes, shooting guns, his grandmother’s homemade cracked-wheat buns with Cheez Whiz, water skiing and watching Disney movies. He enjoyed helping at the farm – packing pipe, working with livestock and all the chores that go along with farm life.

He graduated from W.R. Meyers High School in 1977 and remained lifelong friends with some of his classmates.

Scott fulfilled a mission in the Philippines from 1979 to 1981. He loved this stage in life where he made many friends and lifelong memories. He loved to talk about it any chance he got.

Early in his 20s, Scott started working in the oil patch. He spent many years in this field until he met his wife, Janice (Larson), in 1994. It was love at first sight and after six short months they got married. Theirs was a happy union for 28 years.

Scott adopted Janice’s two children, Jessica and Eric, and sons Jack Ross and Scott Jr. rounded out the family after the couple married. They were a happily blended family and being sealed as a family in the temple was a dream come true for Scott.

He coached baseball and umpired his children’s sports. He loved spending time at the ball diamonds with the boys, or taking Jessica to swimming competitions all over Alberta.

Dad was the biggest kid out there, with many of his favourite things being a reflection of that.

Scott would be the first in line to help when anyone needed assistance. He spent his life doing charity work with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community. He enjoyed many callings within the church over the years. His most recent calling, being a youth Sunday school teacher for 15 to 17 year olds, was his favourite.

When Dad got sick in his later years, he was able to see the light and never let his ailments stop him from living a good life.

He was known for sharing positive thoughts with those needing a few words of encouragement, and was grateful for his family and faith, which kept him going in the darkest of times. Many of his family are still practicing and using those teachings to this day.

Scott is survived by his wife, Janice; children Jessica Jensen, Eric (Cassandra) Jensen, Jack (Darianna) Jensen and Scott Jensen Jr.; along with grandchildren Kaydence, Channing, Chloe and Elexander. He is also survived by his brother, Cameron (Sharon) Jensen, nine nieces/nephews and nine great nieces/nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Harry Jensen and by his brother Richard.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, May 5, 2023 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, Taber, Alberta. (4710 – 50 Ave.)  with Bishop Lance Toly officiating.
