Robert George Edwards

September 16, 1949 ~ June 18, 2020 (age 70)

It is with much love and sadness that we announce the passing of Robert 'Bob' George Edwards on June 18, 2020 at the age of 70 years.  He will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.

Bob was born in Maitland, Australia on September 16, 1949.  Four short years after his birth, his parents, George and June Edwards and their 3 boys (Kevin, Bob and Brian) boarded the ship from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver, Canada and after a few more short weeks and a long train ride, landed in Lethbridge.  Over the next 10 years, their family moved many times trying to make ends meet before settling in the Hamlet of Wrentham.  There Bob and his brothers learned the value of family, hard work, sacrifice and even the convenience of an indoor bathroom as they established their life in Canada.  It was also during this time that their family expanded to include his brothers Darrel and Ken and sisters, Deb and Gayle.

Bob graduated from Raymond High School and not long after, served a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Adelaide, Australia.  This began his life-long dedication and service in the Church.  During his life he served in the church in many ways including his calling of Branch President in Wrentham for over 14 years.  Bob was always happy to serve and help others wherever he went.

Bob met and married the love of his life, Lynne Gibb in 1972.  They made Wrentham their home for over 17 years where they started their family where he and his brothers operated the Massey Ferguson dealership and started his career in all things related to farm machinery.  In 1989, they moved their family to Stirling and continued his career in selling many types of farm machinery and even tried his hand at owning and running a small farm himself.  Bob worked hard and tried many business ventures including owning and operating the Stirling store for many years.  Throughout his career and over the many things he tried, he liked meeting and talking with people the most.  Bob couldn’t go anywhere without finding someone he knew and starting up a conversation.  Bob worked hard all his life and made sure he included his kids whenever he could to help them learn the same value of work that he learned early on.

Bob’s family was the pride and joy of his life. Even during the last 7 years as he struggled with his health, he never complained and enjoyed having his family close and serving them however he could.  He will be forever remembered and loved as the patient, kind and loving man that he was by his cherished wife of 48 years, Lynne, his 6 children Rob (Melissa) Edwards, Tami (Corey) McCarthy, Dennis (Mary) Edwards, Jared (Kimberly) Edwards, Lynsey (Patrick) Court, Cory (Marcie) Edwards and 2 foster children Kenisha Edwards, Cylus Edwards.

Bob is survived by his brothers and sisters, Kevin (Mary Jane) Edwards, Brian (Geneal) Edwards, Darrel (Janet) Edwards, Debbie Edwards, Gayle (Terry) Woolf and Ken (Marsha) Edwards and is predeceased by his parents George and June Edwards and his brother Colin Edwards.

Friends may meet the family from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 22, 2020 at the Stirling Chapel.

Also, due to Covid-19 restrictions of gatherings under 100, there will be a funeral service for family only at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the chapel.  A graveside service will follow at the Stirling Cemetery.
