Nina Waselenak

Nina Waselenak, beloved wife, cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 96 years of age, with her family by her side.

She is the loving mother of George - dec. (Linda) Waselenak, Marie (Ed) Gray, Holly (Bernie) Huizing, Victor - dec., and Katherine (Bill) Van Braak. As well as the loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Nina is also survived by her nephew Igor (Lena) Gridin of Toronto.

She was born to parents Ivan and Maria Miroshnytschenko (Kremenchuk, Ukraine) joining older sister Pasha and then her younger sister Valya completed the family.

Despite the hardships she endured during the war years, she bravely came to Canada alone (1947), not knowing anyone in her new homeland. She and our father Michael met in Lethbridge and were married in 1948. They had 41 wonderful years together until his passing in 1989. In 1995 she married George Slemko of which their union was short lived with his passing a few years later.

Prayers will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2024,starting at 7:00pm at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703-13 St. N Lethbridge, Alberta. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, 643 -12B Street N, in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta.
