Marie Yoshiko Hirashima

    Marie Yoshiko Hirashima, beloved wife of the late Tomio Hirashima, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 in the Legacy Lodge at the age of 91 years.

    She is survived by her daughter Donna (Richard) LaPlace of Canmore, AB, and son-in-law Brian Jackson of Lethbridge, AB, grandson Nicholas (Ana) Jackson of Grand Prairie, TX, granddaughter Nicole LaPlace of Canmore, AB, great granddaughter Valentina Jackson of Grand Prairie, TX, brother Kazuo (Yoriko) Hiraga of Calgary, AB, sister Susie Hiraga of Calgary, AB, sister-in-law Sets (Kaz) Ohno of Lethbridge, AB, and numerous nieces and nephews.

    She was predeceased by her husband Tom “Tomio” Hirashima, daughters Denise Fress and Judy Jackson of Lethbridge, AB. Her parents Eigoro and Yoshie Hiraga of Lethbridge, AB, her brothers Jerome (Pauline) Hiraga, and George Hiraga of Lethbridge, AB, as well as by her sister Emy (Jim) Sakamoto of Penticton, BC.

    Marie was born on February 19, 1932 in Vancouver, BC. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, golf, cards, games, cooking delicious Japanese food, casinos, and most importantly her grandchildren Nicholas and Nicole and great grandchild Valentina.

      She was a faithful follower and volunteer of the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta.

    Friends may meet with the family on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge.

     The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470 - 40 Street South, Lethbridge with Rev. Y. Izumi officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
