Laurie Twedt Obituary

Laurie Twedt of Lethbridge passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with dementia at the age of 74 on Saturday August 20, 2022 at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

Laurie is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Twedt; and his 7 children:  Clifton (Crystal) Twedt, Jeff (Michelle) Twedt, Greg (Stephanie) Twedt, Jeremy (Stacy) Twedt, Phil (Andrea) Twedt, Amanda (Chris) Twedt, and Calvin (Toni) Twedt; his siblings, Tom (Analyn), Wendy (Larry, dec.) Davies, Don (Bev) Rennie, Betty (Ron, dec.) Rennie, Deb Rennie; and Stepmother, Mary.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  Laurie is now reunited with his sister, Beth; Mother, Joyce; step-brother Ron Rennie; and Father, Wilf; as well as many others who passed before him.

Laurie was born in Lethbridge as his father farmed the land nearby in Carmangay.  As a teenager, his family moved to Bearberry, Sundre and Calgary and he ended up finding eternal love with the girl next door.

Glenda and Laurie started out in Calgary and moved around Alberta doing different odd jobs.  Eventually, Laurie worked with his father in insurance until moving to a farm in the Traver’s Dam area.  He assisted his uncles on the farm as well as starting up his own successful drywall company.  After selling the farm, his family moved to Picture Butte where he continued his drywalling business until he retired.  His family were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ in Picture Butte and were involved in the community there.  He had a love of music, and as his children grew up and moved away, Laurie found great joy in singing in the Picture Butte men’s choir and the church choir.

He also involved his family in the Carmangay rodeo where he would compete in calf roping with his children. Laurie would dress up and walk the Carmangay parade as a clown delighting the local children (and his own) using his extended drywall stilts.
