John Michael Mehew

John Michael Mehew, beloved husband of Bev Mehew, passed away Friday January 27, 2023 at the Raymond Health Centre at the age of 86, after a lengthy illness.

John was born April 18, 1936 in Lethbridge Alberta and lived most of his life in Welling. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher, and even after retiring he loved his daily trips to the feedlot to check on the cows and bring treats to all the boys (and tell them what to do). Wherever John was, one of his favorite things was to go driving and look at the land.  He was known for his love of horse races, basketball, fastball, softball, quadding, riding horses and diet coke. Watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with his family was a Christmas day tradition, and we can’t forget his “John jokes of the day”. If there was a game or event that a grandchild or great-grandchild was in, you just knew that he was going to be there! John had the gift of making every grandchild feel like they were his favourite person.

John loved travelling and one of his favourite places was Hawaii. He enjoyed wintering in Palm Springs, camping, and was always ready for a challenging game of cards, marbles or any kind of game that would allow him to spend time with family and friends.

John was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different capacities ranging from working with the youth, serving in the Bishopric to being an Ordinance Worker in the Temple.

John is survived by his wife, Bev (nee: Audenart) Mehew; children, Cherie Moser, Don (Mona) Mehew, Barry (Marilyn) Mehew, Deena (Wes) Ashford, Jan (John) Scott; 19 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.  He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon (Ron) Ehlert, Karen (Monte) Christensen, and Rae Powelson; as well as brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (nee: Snow) Mehew; parents, Leonard and Myrtle Mehew; and siblings, Jean Christensen, Betty Wilde, Wayne Mehew, Cookie Christensen and Edie Blasco; as well as sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
