James Potts Obituary

It is with great sadness the family of James Ernest Potts announce his passing at the young age of 40, on April 23, 2023.

James leaves to mourn the love of his life, Ashley Ondrik; and step-daughter, Riley; parents, Jim and Mary-Ann Potts; twin brother, Jeff Potts (Megan and Joey); his beloved nephew, Mickey Potts; maternal grandparents, Chuck and Phyllis Stotz; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his sister, Mindy Potts; niece, Madison Potts; and paternal grandparents, Ernest and Joyce Potts.

Born on July 8, 1982 in Lethbridge Alberta, he followed his twin brother Jeff, into this world. James was raised in Lethbridge and attended numerous schools while growing up, in grade 7 he joined the LCI wrestling team, where he found success as an athlete. James excelled as a wrestler, winning several gold metals and became Alberta Provincial Champion, which lead him into the love of watching UFC fighting.  James had a love for fishing, camping and the outdoors, which he gained from his father. Whenever they would get the chance to go out fishing, they were gone. All his Dad had to say was “Fishing, James?” and James and his brother Jeff would load up the truck, and be ready to go, before Dad knew it.

James had lots of friends, but developed a special kinship with his best friend, Bradley Jacklin, who was said to be “his brother from another mother”. They shared a common bond that few friends ever share. The two spent waking hours together, like they were joined at the hip, supporting each other in whatever they did. James worked many jobs growing up in Lethbridge with his longest employment with Lactalis, until his passing. James will be fondly remembered for his love of his family and friends.

A cremation has taken place. A Celebration in honour of his life will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Westminster Community Hall, 411 16 Street North, Lethbridge.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association https://lethbridgesportcouncil.ca/sport-directory/lethbridge-amateur-wrestling-association
