Iwan Christian Heinemeyer, of Raymond, Alberta, passed away on June 5, 2022 at the age of 93 years.
Iwan was born on April 9, 1929, in Den Haag, Netherlands. After living through World War II in Holland Iwan worked for several years in Africa for a Dutch trading company before returning to Holland with a young family. Iwan and his family then immigrated to Canada (Saskatoon) in 1960, followed by a move to Calgary in 1963.
Iwan worked for Air Canada for 24 years. Following retirement Iwan travelled frequently to destinations such as Africa, Europe, and Australia. Iwan had a particular affection for Thailand and spend several winters there. He was known as a very charming man who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, and gardening.
Iwan moved to Raymond after the birth of his youngest child, Jonathan, and established many friendships in the community, particularly at Ridgeview Lodge where he lived since 2018.
Iwan was predeceased by his father Paul Heinemeyer, mother Hinka (Heinemeyer) Timmer, stepfather Klaas Timmer, and beloved daughter, Carol Misura. He leaves to mourn his children Robert (Anne) Heinemeyer, Lauri (Chris) Foss, Peter (Dawn) Heinemeyer, Jonathan (Kerinda) Heinemeyer; son-in-law Duane Misura; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish to make a memorial donation may make a donation to charity that supported children (e.g., Big Brothers Big Sisters or Operation Smile) as Iwan loved children!
A memorial service will be held on friday, August 5, 2022, 1:00pm, at the Raymond & District Agriculture Society, main building (98 East Park Street, Raymond).
