Irmgard “Irma” Luise Dragosz, nee Rinner, was born in Speyer, Germany on March 14, 1938 and died in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on August 22, 2024. Before marriage, she worked as a translator in post-war Germany, providing written translations for English and French documents. She immigrated to Canada in 1968 with her husband Bronislaw Dragosz. After raising two children in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, she eventually returned to work as a health care aide.
Irma was an exceptionally kind and gentle person, and had a genuine yet understated warmth that made her loved by many. She showed interest in and curiosity about others and their struggles, yet was also always ready to share in laughter. At the same time, she possessed an inner strength and resilience that saw her through her life’s many hardships.
Irma is survived by her two children, Monica and Alexander (Christine). She is also survived by her brother Horst (Genevieve) of Essen, Germany, and their children, Claus and Annik. She was predeceased by her brother Manfred, and is survived by his wife Christa and their children Sabine, Susanne, and Hans Peter.
We, her children, wish to thank various staff at Blue Sky Lodge and St. Therese Villa, especially the health care aides, who saw her for the light that she was, treated her with kindness, and shared with us the impact she had on them. Irma will be so missed by us, and remembered with much love. In the words of a family friend, grief shows us where love has walked.
