Fedde (Fred) Bosma Obituary

On Friday, June 23, 2023, at the age of 88, Fedde “Fred” Bosma, in his own words, “went home” to be with his Lord and Savior after a short stay in the Chinook Regional Hospital.

Fred was born in Katlijk, Friesland on December 12, 1934.  In 1950 the Bosma family immigrated to Southern Alberta.  Fred married Anneke Kuiken in 1961 and they were married for 44 years, until her passing in 2005. They raised four children and were proud Pake and Grandma of 9 grandchildren.  After starting their married life in Calgary, AB, they moved to Grand Rapids, MI where Fred graduated from Calvin College.   They then moved to Bowmanville, ON before finally settling in Lethbridge in 1979.  Together they loved to travel, cross country ski, read, volunteer, and spend time with family members.

Fred married Maragret Luimes in 2008. They were married for 14 years until her passing earlier this year.  This marriage greatly expanded both of their families and blessed Fred with more children and grandchildren to love. They enjoyed traveling, seeing many places around the world, and visiting their family.

In his 88 years Fred worked in many trades including farm labor, logging, and welding, but his true passion was teaching which he did faithfully from 1968 until his retirement in the 1990’s.  Fred was an avid reader and lifelong learner; he had a passion for helping those in need as evidenced by his faithful volunteer work at Chinook Regional Hospital, Chinook Life Care, and the Lethbridge Senior Center.  He was also an advisory member of a Provincial committee that worked to meet the needs of senior citizens. Fred was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church and served the church in many capacities throughout his life.

Fred is survived by his children: Andrew and Lisa Bosma (Willem), Angela and Owen Wilson (John, Sharon), Robert and Tricia Bosma (Kayla, Nathan (Annika), Jonathan), and Lorelei and Jeff Smits (Annika, Corryn).  He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Nellie Bosma, brother in-law Jake Kuiken, and brother and sister-in-law Gary and Nadine Kuiken, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was predeceased by spouses Anne Bosma and Margaret Luimes; grandson David Wilson; brother Herman Bosma; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Louie Brandsma; sister and brother-in-law Winnie and Case Korver; sister Janet Bosma, and sister-in-law Keenie Kuiken.
