Evelyn Myrdle (Paul) Beaudoin

Evelyn Beaudoin died as she lived – on her terms. On November 20, 2021 she passed peacefully at home with her devoted husband, Danny Beaudoin, by her side as he always was and surrounded by family. Ev was born in Thorsby, Alberta, but grew up in Rocky Mountain House with her parents, Winnifred Wolfe (Walker) and Ordie Wolfe, and her siblings. She graduated from high school as homecoming queen and as a member of the basketball team.

Throughout her life Ev kept busy with a variety of activities and hobbies, including sewing and embroidery, dragon boating, and hiking, but perhaps her greatest passion was her love of golf. She was a long-time member at Land O’ Lakes Golf & Country Club in Coaldale, Alberta and at Viewpoint Golf Resort in Mesa, Arizona. She had four holes-in-one to her name, two at the third hole at Land O’ Lakes and two at the third hole at Viewpoint, which are a testament to her dedication to the game. If you had the pleasure of golfing with Ev you know that she was serious about the sport. There were no gimmes, no mulligans, and no moving the ball – after all, it does you no good to take shortcuts. She imparted this unwavering principle to her five children, Gaylene (Tyrone) Laarz of Calgary, Tammy Garrett (Lynn Bue) of Saskatoon, Trevor Garrett (Lynn Kenler) of Fort Macleod, Darren (Bernie) Garrett of Lethbridge, and Leeanne (Dave) Barton of Medicine Hat, who she raised while working full-time and washing all the bedding in the house every Sunday – a ritual she insisted was maintained right until the end.

If you ask any of Ev’s children what they admire most about their mother, they will undoubtedly mention her commitment to doing what was best for her family by making the difficult decision to support them on her own for the early years of their lives. With seemingly unending work ethic, no sacrifice was too great if it meant making things a little bit better for her children. She met her partner for life in Danny who fully embraced fatherhood with grace, humility, and a complete dedication to the role. Ev and Danny spent their years camping, enjoying the sun in Mesa, spending time with their family, and religiously watching The Young and the Restless.

Never one to boast about her own accomplishments, Ev would instead tell anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of the people around whom she anchored her life – her family. Ev was immensely proud of her grandchildren, Jim Merrick (Jolyn D’Andrea), Michael-Lynn (Phil) Meloche, Megan Demchuk, Erica Bue-Garrett (Kevin Barrett), Jesse Porter (Darci Bloom-Bertrand), Colin Fan, Taylor (Madysin) Wolstenholme, Alex Garrett, Taylor (Kevin) Burke, Trey Barton, and Kaylee Garrett  and her great-grandchildren, Olivia Parsons, Harper Meloche, Daley Meloche, Haley Demchuk, Brayden Firth, Kylie Bue-Garrett, Dakota Bue-Garrett, Maverick Barrett, Jayce Barrett, Ophelia Wolstenholme, Henry Burke, Emilia Burke, and Gabrielle Burke.

Ev’s quiet strength, uncompromising principles, tenacious work ethic and impeccable fashion sense are just a few of the qualities that made her the mother, the grandmother, and the friend that she was to so many people. After all, it’s not on the fairway where one shows their true character, but in the sand. And Ev confronted the challenges in her life with the same tenacity, dedication, and biting wit with which she approached the sand. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jack Ady Cancer Centre.  And the next time you’re on the third hole at Land O’ Lakes or at Viewpoint think of Ev, shoot your shot, and go for the hole-in-one – because she would have.
