On June 22, 2023, Diane L. (Beitz) Kardolus of St. Albert, Alberta passed away peacefully in Lethbridge, Alberta, in the presence of family. She was 72 years old. Diane will be lovingly missed by her children Erin and Dustin, her son-in-law Mickey, her grandchildren Justice (Jane) and Emrys, her sisters Elaine (Roy) and Cheryl, her nieces Corinne and Stevie-Rae, her nephews Alan and Kevin, and other family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Irene, father Peter, and brother Darrell.
Born in Edmonton, Diane grew up enjoying animals and handicrafts. She graduated from Bonny Doon High School and eventually left Edmonton to start a family in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. In time, that family made its way to St. Albert, Alberta and that is where she lived for about 30 years. Diane worked for Horne & Pitfield in accounts receivable for some years and then as a Tim Hortons manager for about 20 years. She also enjoyed a close relationship with her mother, spending time each week helping her out however she could.
Diane was a lover of creatures. Most especially, these included fish, birds, cats, dogs, penguins, wolves, and dragons. She had a variety of other loves as well. Diane had an earring collection that was likely unparalleled by anyone. She liked to read novels, do puzzles, listen to music, and watch TV. She also enjoyed going to concerts, gardening and house plants, and sharing food with others. For all her life, Diane was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and showed it in her ceramic collection and love of cultural dishes.
Anyone that knew Diane would know that she was very shy and private. Despite this, she established some deep friendships that lasted long periods of time. To be around Diane was to be kept on your toes for biting wit and layers of sarcasm. She was also the first to donate to any cause her children supported. Her heart was so big, even though she didn’t let many people see it. Diane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2018 and her day-to-day life was profoundly changed at that time. Bedridden and relocated to another city, she continued to hold on to the things she enjoyed in life for as long as possible. She found joy in the small pleasures, especially her infant grandson. Diane will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this year. Memorial donations may be made to Windy City Canine Rescue.
