Carol Darlene Nilsson, beloved wife of Darryl J. Nilsson of Stirling, passed away on July 5, 2023 at the age of 72.
She is the loving mother of Bradley (Trista) Nilsson of Rochester, NY; Benjamin (Mandy) Nilsson of Stirling; Heather (Brandt) Demars of Meridian, ID; Natasha (Marc) Bennett of Sherwood Park; Johanna (Kevin) Aneca of Chestermere; and the beloved grandmother of 25 grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings Phyllis (Pat) Falcigno, Ronalda Odland, Norreen (Dale) Mellott, and Conway (Linda) Pauls.
She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved sister, Dorreen (Tom) Rookes.
Carol was born on May 16,1951 in Emo, Ontario to Phyllis Wilson and Ronald Hyatt. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was eleven years old, and her faith has been a guiding force in her life ever since.
She married Darryl Nilsson in 1970 in Cardston, Alberta and they spent 53 happy years together. Their five children and 25 grandchildren brought Carol great joy; she was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
She served faithfully in many church callings including teaching, leadership,19 years of Young Women’s Camp, and in 2007-09, she and Darryl served a church mission in the Family History Center in Salt Lake City where she made wonderful friends and memories. She also served as a temple worker in the Cardston temple.
Carol also shared her love with children at Stirling School where she worked as a teacher’s aide.
Her greatest joy was being with her family and she traveled often to be with them and to accompany them on their adventures. They will all remember and miss her songs, her stories, her laugh, her fun-loving spirit, her hugs, her Christmas pajamas, her baking, and above all, her love.
The most important things in her life were her family, her faith in God, and her friends. She will be dearly missed.
The family expresses their thanks for the many kind and thoughtful acts extended during Carol’s cancer journey. A special thanks to all the health care providers on Unit 3B, in the Jack Ady Cancer Centre, and at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Tom Doyle and the volunteers from the Dragonboat Association for bringing Carol’s wish to life last summer.
Friends may meet the family on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 10:00 to 10:50 am prior to the service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stirling Chapel. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in the Stirling Cemetery.
