Barbara Davies Obituary

Barbara Joan Harker Davies was born August 7 1935 in Magrath Alberta. She was a young woman who loved her family, riding and having fun with her friends. There weren’t many girls her age so she spent a lot of her tie with the neighborhood boys. That is where the picked up her habit of teasing and playing pranks. She grew up during the aftermath of WWII and became well accustomed to making do.

Barbara grew up to be a beautiful, loving, and fun person to be around. She got her teaching certificate and went to work in a one room school house in northern Alberta and met Lorenzo Snow Davies Jr. that year. Barbara and Lore were wed in the Cardston Temple on August 17th, 1955. She writes “It wasn’t an expensive wedding. We didn’t have a lot of money, but the town supported us with gifts and we felt good about things. I was marrying the man I loved and that was all that mattered.”

Teaching was part of Barbara’s life and she did a lot of substituting, taught at the Hutterite Colony, Kindergarten in Magrath and Jr. High English in Raymond. She also taught Primary, Sunday School, Young Women’s, Seminary, Relief Society, the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a group called the 3M’s (Marvelous Mormon Mothers). One of her great loves was writing, from stories for children and grandchildren, to poems, and programs for school and church. All her life she was always writing something. Along with her writing she loved drama. She liked to act in plays of all kinds.

She also loved gardening and the outdoors. She liked camping and planning fabulous family reunions and spending time with her family. Barbara and Lore took the time to fulfill 3 missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. First, they went to the Kiribati Islands and taught at Moroni High School acting as Head Master and Mistress. The second was a mission in Nauvoo making candles and bricks and working in the pharmacy. Mom was also in charge of the plays and skits for the older missionaries. The third mission was to Kenya/Uganda where they worked with missionaries to help them solve problems and generally keep them on the right path. They later said the first was learning, the second was fun and the third was stressful.

Barbara leaves behind her, six children and their spouses, 25 grandchildren and more than 50 Great grandchildren.

She will be missed!! She is the loving mother of Barbara Joan Zobell (Steve) of Lethbridge, Alberta,  Lorianne Blommaert (Charles) of Kingston, Ontario, Dana Lynne Miles (Scott) of Sandy, Utah, Callee Ruth Chalmers (Dave) of Welling, Alberta, Sheri Rae Watson (Daryn) of Swan Hills, Alberta and James Lorenzo Davies (Carla) of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
