Yvonne Harris

YVONNE B. HARRIS, a native daughter and pioneer of Lethbridge, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2009. She was 105, the beloved wife of the late Harold "Babe" Harris, Born November 28, 1904 to Thomas and Cassie Bernier, Mrs. Harris was raised, schooled and spent most of her life in Lethbridge. She worked in secretarial positions in mining offices and Ellison Milling and managed "Babe's Spudnuts". She became a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ, serving in many capacities, and was honoured for 70 years of continuous "Visiting Teaching". She treasured her mission in the Los Angeles Temple with her dear husband. She felt her most important calling was mothering the family who have survived her: Irene (Mrs. Byron) Palmer of Lethbridge, Elaine (Mrs. Duane) Remington of Cardston, Bonnie (Mrs. Keith) Hawkes of Lethbridge, and Jeanann (Mrs. LeGene) Hutchings of Orem, Utah; and Tom (Glenda) Harris of Taos, New Mexico. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and 39 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her life spanned the days of horse and buggy transportation to modern jet aircraft and space exploration. She walked the streets of Lethbridge when there were wooden sidewalks and gas lamp street lighting. She loved gardening, animals, especially dogs and horses. She was an ardent traveler, visiting Europe, Israel, East Africa, and Hawaii. Friends may meet the family on Friday, January 22 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lethbridge Stake Centre, and following the memorial service. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Lethbridge Stake Centre, 2410-28 Street South, Lethbridge, with Bishop Brian Renaud officiating. Interment in the Archmount Cemetery, Lethbridge.
