WALTER CHARLES DUNCOMBE, beloved husband of the late Lucy Duncombe, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 19, 2016, with family by his side.
Dad was predeceased by mom in 2008, his parents Lowell and Nellie Duncombe, brothers Lawrence and Doug Duncombe, and sister Joyce Thomson. Also all of mom’s family including Louie Allred – mom’s twin sister. He leaves to mourn five children, Ron, Rob, Dale, Vicki, and Mark as well as 19 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. As well as his sisters Jean (Bill Nemeth), Eileen Atwood, and sister in law Sylvia Oler.
Dad was born in Taber and grew up in Raymond. He married mom (a Stirling girl), and soon headed off to war. Dad fought with the RCRs in the North Africa and Italian campaigns and was shot and wounded on the front lines. He spent time recovering in Italy, England, Toronto, and Calgary. His left hand remained crippled for life.
Dad spent many years as a mechanic at the Raymond and Taber sugar factories. He then moved on to cattle boss and managed Hi-Way “52” Feeders in Raymond and Dri-Land Feeders in Warner. He then ran a small business in Calgary for three years before retiring in Raymond and finally Lethbridge.
Dad missed mom every day something fierce. He often thought she had been back, now they will finally be united forever-again.
Our dad was a generous, kind and honest man. He was as genuine as they come. He lived a long, good life, and will be sadly missed by his family.
“See you and mom later, dad”
