WALLACE LEONARD (BOB) SHIPTON. Bob was born the youngest of ten children to Theresa (Knight) Shipton and Edward George Shipton on March 12, 1924 in Sydney, Australia. He passed away peacefully at the Raymond Hospital on June 24, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Gladys Shipton, daughters Lori Shipton, Kelley (Russell) Bartsoff, SuZan (Ken) Johnson, Lesley (Ron) Chapman and his sons Keith (Pat) Shipton and Dennis (Janet) Shipton. He is also survived by a sister Joan (Jock) Malley of Melbourne, Australia, 9 grandchildren; Ryan, Melanie and Regan Bartsoff, Kara, Dillon and Taylor Johnson, Kylie and Ashley Chapman, and JD Murphy-McConnell, numerous nieces and nephews in both Australia and Canada, brother-in-law Vernon Garner and sister and brother-in-law Adrienne (Herb) Bishop. He was predeceased by his father and mother, five sisters, three brothers, father-in-law Arthur Garner, mother-in-law Elda Temple Garner and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Bob came to Canada in 1943 to train in Calgary as a wireless operator and air gunner for the Australian RAAF. After the war ended he decided to return to Canada and eventually Calgary where he met Gladys Marie Garner. They were married in 1953 and moved to Raymond where they settled and raised six children. He jointly owned and operated Garner and Shipton Gas & Oil with his father-in-law Arthur Garner and brother-in-law Vernon Garner. He eventually sold his share of the business to Vernon and was employed by the LDS church as a custodian for the churches in Raymond. Bob loved working with and teaching kids and was involved in the LDS Scouting program for many years. He was an excellent badminton player - willing to teach anyone who wanted to learn. Trying to win a game of badminton against Bob became a challenge for many of his "students." Bob was inducted into the Raymond Sports Hall of Fame in 1996. Bob lived life to the fullest and had lots of interesting stories to tell. His greatest passions were sports and family whom he loved unconditionally. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Taylor Street Chapel, Raymond with Bishop Todd Snow officiating. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery.
