We are saddened by the loss of VALERIE BEISCHEL on January 7, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her son Jason and wife Marla of Red Deer, her daughter Jennifer and husband Dan of Lethbridge. Parents Jean and Wilfred O'Connor of Ceylon, sisters Gail Debruyne (Allan), Janice Blackmore (Steve) from Ceylon, brother Kevin O'Connor of Radville, sister in laws' Shirley McClarty (Vaughan) of Ceylon, Joan Biro (Alex) of Ontario and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Valerie was predeceased by her father Ted Culling, husband Bob Beischel, sister Linda Jones and brother Brian Culling. Val was born on April 18th, 1954 in Radville, Saskatchewan to Jean and Ted Culling. Valerie was born into a family of 4 children but learned early in life the value and importance of family when she lost her father and a brother. Val took all of her schooling in Ceylon which was where she met and fell in love with her husband Bob. They were married in December of 1972. Jason was born in Regina and Jennifer was born in Pincher Creek. While in Pincher Creek, Val stayed busy at home raising the kids and Bob worked at the Shell Waterton Gas plant. After the kids were in school, she took at job at the local Co-op. She remained there for the next 12 years working as a cashier, then as the manager of the cafeteria. Tragedy struck in 1989 when Bob suddenly passed away. She moved to Kelowna, BC where she bought and ran a Blimpie Subs and Salads franchise. After years of trying to make this business profitable, she decided the market just wasn't going to respond the way she had hoped. Val also missed her kids who were both living in Lethbridge, so she packed up and moved back to Alberta to be closer to them. Val decided to take her career in a new direction and enrolled in the PCA course through the Bow Valley College. She became a certified PCA in 2000 and proceeded to work for Lethbridge Family Services. She was also employed at Adaptacare for 2 A½ years. Val started to work for Columbia Assisted Living in 2003 where she was employed up until April of 2006 at which time her illness forced her to quit work. Through her battle with cancer she took every opportunity to enjoy the company of family and friends and her wish of having a family Christmas in Saskatchewan was realized. Val loved life which was evident through all the fun times she had with her family, friends, co-workers and anyone who she came in contact with. She enjoyed traveling and was always reading a book or magazine, watching TV and keeping up with the lives of the movie stars. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARTHA'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. W., Lethbridge, on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Dennis MacDonald, Celebrant. There will also be a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ceylon, Saskatchewan on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2M7.
