Tomio Hirashima

"Tom" Tomio Hirashima, beloved husband of Marie Yoshiko of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at home on May 1st, 2009 at the age of 79 years. Tom will be sadly missed by his daughters Judy (Brian) Jackson of Lethbridge, Donna (Richard) LaPlace of Canmore, grandchildren Nicholas Jackson and Nicole LaPlace, his sister Setsuko (Kaz) Ohno as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents Torao and Yumiko Hirashima, daughter Denise Fress, and sister Hatsue and George Nonomura. Tom was born on October 2, 1929 in Hammond B.C. Tom and Marie were married in Lethbridge in November of 1954. Tom worked for the City of Lethbridge Electrical Dept., where he retired in September 1994. He was an active member of the Buddhist Church, and his passions in life were his family, gardening, bowling, golf and the Blue Jays. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME (703-13th Street North) on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at THE BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA (470-40th Street S). with Reverend Izumi officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Flowers and Koden are gratefully declined. Donations in Tom's name may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (#207, 542-7th Street South Lethbridge , Alberta T1J 2H1) or the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta (470-40th Street S, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 3Z5).
