Dr. Siegfried John Koegler of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Eve (Darasch) Koegler, passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the age of 90. His 5 children and their families survive him. David (Christine) Koegler of Lethbridge, Trevor (Janet) Koegler of Chatham Ontario, Paul (Olga De Sanctis) Koegler of Calgary, Susan Olsen of Raymond and Peter (Joanne) Koegler of Lethbridge. 21 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, a sister Hannah Schlenker, a brother John (Merle) Koegler, a sister-in-law Delores Koegler all of Kitchener/Waterloo, a sister Marion (George) Barker of Canmore. His wife Elizabeth, grandson Jordan Koegler, parents, Arno and Emma Koegler and a brother Harry Koegler, predeceased him. Dad was born in Planitz, Germany May 22, 1921 and immigrated to Kitchener /Waterloo Ontario as a 2 year old child. He excelled in school and continued on through to Medical School. He then completed postgraduate studies in children's health in England. He was instrumental in planning and creating Canada's first assessment centre for the mentally handicapped as Clinical Director at CPRI in London, Ontario. He established a second clinic in Toronto known as Surrey Place Centre. He then took the challenge of introducing the principles of Normalization and De-Institutionalization as Director/Administrator at Cedar Springs Ontario Hospital School and Michener Centre in Red Deer, Alberta. He finished his career returning to clinical work at the Alvin Buckwold Center at University Hospital in Saskatoon and retired to Lethbridge Alberta. Next to his wife, the love of his life was music. Many will remember Dad for his gift of entertaining with music. Whether it was on the piano, organ or accordion, he loved playing them all. We as children most nights fell asleep to his music. In the last years of his life without Mom, the music kept him alive. Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many areas of the church. His love for Family History was great. He also had a great talent with technology and helped others with their Family Searches on the computer. The family would like to thank the Staff at the Hospital and Dr. Cal Stewart for the care of our Dad. Also the Staff at The View, he loved living there on his own. The Funeral will be held on Friday July 8, 2011 at 2pm at the LDS Lethbridge Stake Center on Scenic Drive South, with Bishop Bryan Renaud officiating. Friends can meet the family on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 7-8pm at Christensen Salmon Generations, 703-13 St N. and also from 1-1:45pm prior to the funeral at the church. Interment to follow in the Mountain View cemetery.
