Sachiko Katakami

Sachiko (Sach) KATAKAMI April 28, 1921 - December 5, 2009 SACHIKO KATAKAMI passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 88 years with her family by her side. Sach will be greatly missed by her sister Chuck (Tom) Tajiri of Lethbridge and sisters-in-law Eleanor Katakami of Picture Butte and Nancy (Kaz) Nakamura of Lethbridge. Sach had many nieces and nephews including nephew Tim (Cathy) Katakami of Red Deer and their children Steven and Kristen, Brian (Robin) Tajiri of Vauxhall and their children Brad, Stephanie and Stacey, Craig Tajiri of Lethbridge, Gail Ikebuchi and son Tyler of Taber and Linda (Jim) Hubbell and their children Richie and Sarah of Calgary, all of whom Sach treated like her own children. Sach is predeceased by her parents Yuichi and Yasuno Katakami, brothers Takeshi and Kozie Katakami and very special nephew Gene Tajiri. Sach was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on April 28, 1921. In 1942 she moved to Picture Butte, Alberta with her family. She worked for twenty-five years as a drugstore assistant at Price's Pharmacy. After retiring from there she moved to Lethbridge where she dedicated her time, love and compassion into looking after her nephew Gene. Sach was a dedicated member of the Buddhist Temple. She participated in many activities such as karaoke club, golf, bowling, clogging, dancing, curling, tonarigumi, chojuki and gardening. She was also a member of the Buddhist Choir. In 2006 Sach moved to Martha's House where she lived for two years. She then resided at the Edith Cavell Care Centre until the time of her passing. Throughout her life Sach has made many very special friends whom she loved dearly. She was a very special person who cared so much for the people around her. She was kind, generous, selfless and loving. Sach will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Friends may meet the family at CHRISTENSEN SALMON FUNERAL HOME, 327-10 Street South, Lethbridge, on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private funeral service with Rev. Y. Izumi officiating will be held on Thursday at THE BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge. Sach's family respectfully declines Koden and flowers. If you wish, donations can be made in memory of Sach to The Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470-40 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 3Z5.
