The official obituary of

Robert "Bob" Earl Bullock

September 14, 1933 — September 21, 2026

Send flowers

Robert "Bob" Bullock passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, in Raymond, Alberta at the age of 93.  Bob leaves behind his wife Sarah (Elaine) Bullock, and four children: Robert (Clarke) Bullock, Leslie Elaine Nielsen, Dana (Renee) Karren, Blake Allan Bullock; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers LaDell Bullock, William "Bill" Bullock, Ronald Bullock and his sister Lois Bond and many nieces and nephews.  His brother Arthur Bullock proceeded him in death approximately one year ago.

Bob was born on September 14, 1933, in the St. Michael's Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta to Raymond Wilburn Bullock and Julia Relief Cox.  He grew up in the small farming hamlet of Welling, Alberta.  His first home was a tiny two room house (actually a shack).  His father Raymond built a new home for the growing family in Welling when he was 11 years old.

Bob's early childhood centered around him and his older brother LaDell making their own fun on the farm.  They would play cowboys and Indians for hours. Bob and LaDell enjoyed riding horses and would ride considerable distances into Raymond and Magrath and other locations.  They loved to climb tall cottonwood trees, play kick the can, swim and fish in the Pothole Creek.

Bob loved airplanes and as a kid would play war games, build model warplanes and collect anything to do with the military.  He said he was a frustrated World War 2 pilot.  As Bob became a teenager he discovered that he had a love for motorcycles.  Many of the teenage boys in Welling also had motorcycles and they formed a biker gang taking many trips, with one trip as far away as Oregon.  Even though they thought they were a gang and tried to dress tough, none of them were really rebels.  Bob passed on his love for motorcycles to his oldest son Clarke by starting him young (10 years old) on a small Honda mini bike.

Bob found his sweetheart in Grade 12 while attending Magrath High School. They continued their courtship and were engaged when Bob left to serve his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Southern U.S. States. Shortly after Bob's return from his mission, they were sealed in the Cardston Alberta Temple. His love for Elaine never wavered, and kept growing stronger throughout the years.

Bob's mother Julia taught her children that they should get a good education.  He followed that advice and went to Brigham Young University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology, a Master's Degree in Zoology, and later received a PhD in Zoology from the University of Alberta.  He taught first at the Lethbridge College and later at the University of Lethbridge. His teaching career spanned more than thirty one years and brought him great joy.

Bob loved the wilderness and spent as much time as possible in the mountains.  Big game hunting was his passion and he spent his life looking for the biggest ram or buck.  He built a den to display his trophies.  When he wasn't hunting he would take his family on trips to many locations around North America.  He always had an unquenchable desire for adventure and he and Elaine would travel with his siblings to many locations around the world.  He drove the Alaska Highway. Bob saw pictures of Machu Picchu in Peru as a child and always wanted to see it in person. He fulfilled this dream by taking a trip to Peru with his oldest son Clarke.  He was not disappointed!

He also loved to snow ski and play hockey.  He would play hockey every Wednesday night with his sons during the winter and liked to call the Welling team, the "Welling Weirdos."  Needless to say, no one ever made the pros.

Family and church were the focus of his life.  He was a man of unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and served in many callings, including serving as a Bishop of the Welling Ward. Later in life, Bob and Elaine were able to serve a full time service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  They also spent many years serving in the Cardston Alberta Temple.

Although it is hard to say goodbye, our hearts are full of gratitude for all the ways he blessed our lives.  Everyone who met him loved him and respected him.  He was a man without guile who treated all those he came in contact with, with kindness and compassion.  Many have said he was honest to a fault. Love you, Dad!

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Welling Chapel,62080 AB-5, Welling, AB with Bishop Darren Wilde presiding. Friends may meet the family prior to the service from 10:00am to 10:45am. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Cemetery.
