Robert Wocknitz

ROBERT WILLIAM WOCKNITZ, beloved husband of Joanne (nee Wilde) Wocknitz, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the age of 66 years. Robert, the youngest of 4 children was born on June 29, 1945 in Lethbridge to William "Willie" and Dorothy Wocknitz. He graduated from Magrath High School and received his Bachelors Degree from BYU in Plant Science. He then completed his Masters Degree in Biological and Agricultural Science from Utah State University. Robert served a mission in the Southwest Indian Mission, Navajo Speaking, and he married his "sweetie" Joanne Wilde on December 27, 1967. He worked for Stauffer Chemical as a research biologist in Sunnyville, California. Then the open fields of the prairies called to him and he returned back to Magrath where he and his wife enjoyed raising their four children and farming. Robert loved to serve his community and was a member of many boards including; Delegate on the Alberta Wheat Pool, Board of Director of Chief-Mt Gas-Coop, Trustee for Westwind School Division #74, Magrath Water Co-op, and Magrath Irrigation District. He also taught Farm Management on the Blood Reservation for the Lethbridge Community College. He served as Bishop of Magrath 4th Ward, ordinance worker in the Cardston Temple, and went on a mission with Joanne to the Nauvoo, IL Temple. Robert loved farming and had great mechanical talents. His main concern in life was to serve and help his family, neighbors and friends. He is survived by his wife Joanne, children Cheri (Guy) Neitz, Sandy (Dave) Barfuss, Brett (Michelle) Wocknitz, Melissa (Scott) Ashby; grandchildren Ty, Kylie, Shayla Neitz, Trevor, DeNae, Tia, Jessica, Linsey Barfuss, Austin, Macie, Tayler, Skyler Wocknitz, Andrew, Megan, Liam Ashby, his siblings Shirley (Vic) Boychuk, Donna (Lawrence) Landy, Carol Dahl, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy, and brother-in-law Eugene Dahl. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday July 11, 2011 at 2pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, MAGRATH STAKE CENTRE, with Bishop John Balderson officiating. Friends may meet the family on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 7-8pm at the church and also from 1-1:45pm prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.
