NERLAND 1925 - 2011 Surrounded by the love and presence of her family, PHYLLIS JORDAN NERLAND (nee Southerton) passed from this life to her eternal reward on Friday, June 24, 2011. Phyllis was born in Bow Island, Alberta on July 4, 1925, the youngest child of James and Edna Southerton. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one sister, Beryl Shannon of Salmon Arm, BC. On October 17, 1947 she married Oliver Nerland. Their union was blessed with five children, Ken (Sandy) of Fresno, CA, Marvin (Tanya) of Salmon Arm, BC, Douglas (Brenda) of Tampa, FL, David (Janice) of Tallahassee, FL and Lorraine (Dan) Flint of Cranbrook, BC. Her life was further brightened with 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Phyllis was a Bible-believing Christian, faithful to the Lord. She has been a lifelong member of the Southside Church of Christ since its beginning in 1956. She was a devoted Christian wife to her husband until his passing in May 1980 and her home was known for its gracious hospitality. Mom's zest for life was abundant. As a young girl during World War II she worked for the British Embassy in Washington DC. She always loved telling us of her adventures in Washington. She enjoyed travel and visited many different places. She was able to combine her love for travel and family by visiting her children and attending grandchildren's weddings in Canada and the US. First and foremost to her was her love for her children. Mom was always game to go and do anything anyone suggested. She spent many years as a "snowbird" in Arizona making new friends and participating in activities to the fullest. During her later years as a resident at Martha's House and West Highlands in Lethbridge she was known for her attendance at all events. Of particular joy was playing cards and games with the other residents. Phyllis will be dearly missed and we will always remember our fond memories shared with her. A Funeral Service for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge. Friends may meet the family at the Funeral Home on Monday evening, June 27 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
