Paul Roger Hawkins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2026, at the age of 87.
Roger was the eldest child of Leroy (Poley) Hawkins and Genevieve Bennett, born on November 6, 1938. He was a loving older brother to Heather Sather and Dana Letcher. He was raised in Raymond, Alberta, where he developed a lifelong love for family and faith. He graduated from Raymond High School in 1956.
Shortly after graduation, Roger answered the call to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the French Mission. He spent a lot of time in Belgium, serving faithfully from 1957 to 1959. The experiences and testimony he gained during those years remained a guiding influence throughout his life.
Roger met Deanna at a roller skating party and they just “clicked” Deanna says. They were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple on November 17, 1962. Together, they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and service. Their marriage of more than 6 decades was a beautiful example of devotion, friendship, sacrifice and enduring love.
In 1967, Roger graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics and Accounting. They lived in Ogden, Utah during this time and this is where they started their family. Roger’s first job took them to Tacoma, Washington to work for Boeing. This is where Roger realized his niche was to be in business for himself.
Roger was always a loveable, positive and compassionate guy. His family was a big priority in his life. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Tyler, who passed away at the age of 45. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deanna; his children LorRee Valgardson (Brian), Lisa Huber (Marvin), Kelly Hawkins (Sandra), Ryan Hawkins (Joanna), and daughter-in-law Kim Hawkins (Tyler). He also leaves behind 17 cherished grandchildren and their families with 18 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Roger loved the challenge of fishing, patiently waiting and never giving up till he succeeded in catching one or more fish. He loved curling and travelled across southern Alberta to participate in bonspiels. He was something of a celebrity too, thanks to Toyota. He loved people, he loved to be around people and he loved to drive. Roger was a born salesman.
Roger will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ, steadfast dedication to his family, and compassionate, dependable nature. He lived a life of faith, honour, and service, touching countless lives through his example. His legacy will continue through the generations that follow him and through the values he instilled in those he loved.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the promises of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the assurance that families can be together forever. They look forward with hope to the joyful day when they will be reunited with him.
Friends may meet the family from 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 13 St. N, Lethbridge, Alberta. The Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta.
