NATALIE KOMADOWSKI (SZELA) beloved wife of the late Stanley passed away peacefully Saturday October 30, 2010 in the Lethbridge Regional Hospital at the age of 87. Natalie was born on December 8, 1922 in the village of Iwierzyce, near Rzeszow in southeastern Poland. She lived a quiet rural life with three sisters and two brothers. The outbreak of WWII saw Natalie and a brother Frank taken to the western part of Germany, near Lake Constance, to do farm work. While there she met her future husband Stanley Komadowski, a Polish POW who was also put to work on a nearby farm. When the war ended they gained freedom and were married in 1946. While living and working in Constance they had son Stanley Jr. Economic conditions were poor, and with western Canada seeking farm workers they applied to immigrate. Reaching Halifax on May 20, 1950 they along with many others took the long train ride to Lethbridge. Natalie and Stanley worked sugar beets for the Russell and then the Nagy farms and lived in Diamond City; and shopped in the famous Danielson General Store. In 1953 they moved to Lethbridge where Henry was born. Their neighbors on 7th Street North welcomed the Komadowski family and supplied them with garden seeds. Natalie had a green thumb and was a renowned gardener. The neighborhood on 7th Street had such a diverse ethnic mix that it was like being in Europe. The family next moved to the new Dominion Square subdivision, where she has resided until her passing. Natalie is survived by her sons Stanley Jr. and Henry of Lethbridge, sister Stacia and a sister in law Monica, along with many nieces and nephews and their families in Poland. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at ST. BASIL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604-13 Street North, Lethbridge, with Rev. D. Zarebski, S.D.S. ,Celebrant. A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the Funeral Mass. Interment in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
