MYRTLE BAKER JENSEN passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2008 at the age of 86 years, at Raymond Auxiliary Hospital. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 61 years, Henry Evan Jensen; her children: Shirley (Allan) Gregson of Raymond, Joanne (Drew) Cahoon of Raymond, Cynthia (Dean) Sallenback of Raymond, Douglas (Brenda) Jensen of Lethbridge, Sandra (Jim) Alston of Indiana, Jackie (Rod) Simpson of Lethbridge; 28 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; also by her siblings: Hazel Kiely of Oakville, Ontario, Bill Baker, and Wayne Baker, both of Lethbridge. Myrtle is predeceased by her children: Carol Ann, Wayne and Evelyn; her grandson, Spencer Gregson; her parents, Philip and Lottie Baker; parents-in-law, Henry and Grace Jensen; her siblings: Roscoe Baker, LaPreal McNeely, Don Baker, Bryan Baker, Ken Baker, and Claude Baker. Myrtle was raised on the Baker family farm northwest of Raymond where she learned the value of hard work and the joy of family. She was given a lot of responsibility at their home. She loved to mother her younger siblings and kept a close relationship with all of them throughout their lives. She loved living at the farm, riding horses and enjoying the outdoors. She loved giving any family news to the men out working in the fields, and was first to do so. Myrtle was a terrific cook; she dearly loved her mother and learned much at her side. Myrtle has a strong sense of right and wrong, and was never one to settle for second best. This was very evident in her life choices. She married her eternal sweetheart, Evan Jensen, in the Alberta temple on September 26, 1946 after his service in World War II. She had his complete devotion and care throughout her days. Myrtle loved children, and was a mother to nine. This was her greatest gift, she was patient and loving and knew how to be strict as well. Myrtle and Evan gave tireless service caring for their son, Wayne, who died of Muscular Dystrophy at age 20. Myrtle knew how to be a true and faithful friend and had many. She endured many heartaches and trials and was an example of faith as she overcame them. Myrtle enjoyed entertaining and knew how to throw a great party. She had great compassion for her fellow men and gave a lot of service throughout her days. She always looked her best at home and in public, and took great pride in her appearance. She was a devout member of the LDS church and loved attending the temple. She served in many capacities as a teacher, with the youth, cub scouts, etc. She gave 100% to anything she did. Myrtle was full of gratitude and constantly expressed this to those around her. Integrity was also one of her great gifts. She will be remembered, loved and missed by all. Our mother, our friend, we love you. Friends may meet the family at the Taylor Street Chapel on Wednesday evening, January 23, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., or prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Taylor Street Chapel, Raymond, Alberta.
