Meryl Wayne Smeland

SMELAND January 23, 1947 - April 21, 2012 MERYL "WAYNE" SMELAND (age sixty-five) was called home suddenly on a beautiful sunny spring day at his residence. He leaves his soul mate and childhood sweetheart - Gloria "Jean" (Hill) Smeland; son - Sean (Cory) and their sons -Jeff, Conner and Kai; son-in-law -Chris Heard and family - Aleia, Nila, Xien and George. He also leaves his brothers - Roger (Linda) Smeland, Lorne (Shirley) Smeland; his sister - Joan (Steve) Sadownik; as well as sisters-in-law - Gladys (Henry) Bossen, Lucille (Ernest) Pahl and Patty (Roger) Moore and their families. Wayne was predeceased by his daughter - Kimberley Michelle Heard; his parents - Edwin G. and Sophia Smeland and in-laws - Matthew George (Pat) and Margaret Hill. He will be sadly missed by many friends. Wayne grew up in the Seven Persons and Medicine Hat area. He met his sweetheart at the age of fourteen and they were married March 8, 1967. He spent most of his working life with Motion Canada where he was employed at the time of his death. In 1989, he attended the U of L and received Bachelor of Education and Business Administration degrees graduating with distinction. He served in many capacities in "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" but none better than the position he currently held as financial clerk and home teacher. He loved his Savior and attending Church and Temple. Wayne will be remembered not only as a gentle person but also as a gentleman. He was loyal, loving and as a hard worker. Wayne had a compassionate heart and loved and gave freely. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LETHBRIDGE EAST STAKE CENTRE, 4105 Forestry Ave. South. Viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 prior to the service. Interment in the Bow Island Cemetery.
