MEL LAWLOR AKA - Marvelous Mel, Miracle Mel & Melaleuca Mel...Vitamins anyone? Aug 12, 1936 - Sept 12, 2012 Mel was born in Lethbridge and raised in Picture Butte. He was the oldest of 9 children. When he got older his family moved to White Rock, BC and he left from that ward to serve an LDS mission in South Africa. He returned and met Sharon (Colby) and they were married. Mel and Sharon raised 6 children and influenced the lives of numerous others, including his 18 grandchildren. He discovered his talent at a young age and has been selling ever since. In fact, he was often quoted as saying after his mission "if you can sell God...you can sell anything." He was a true people person and loved to talk and visit with anyone and everyone. Throughout their 50 years of marriage Mel and Sharon lived in many places across Canada, including Ontario, Saskatchewan, BC and Alberta. Through these moves they got to meet many people of different walks of life and those friendships lasted the test of time. Mel loved his family, his boat, cars and country music. And he could fix anything with duct tape! His great passion was his children and anyone else's children that were part of his life. He loved to video tape all his children's activities and was always supportive. A Ford man through and through he told all his kids to always buy a Ford. He loved to water ski and drive the boat. In his earlier days he would disk behind the boat, standing on a chair, and he was standing at least 8 feet above the water. It was a sight to see. He taught all his children, some of his siblings and a lot of nieces and nephews how to water ski. Even when he couldn't ski anymore he would spend hours upon hours driving the boat for everyone that wanted to tube, wakeboard, ski, disk etc. He enjoyed every minute of it! Mel suffered from kidney disease and was extremely blessed to find a match from his brother Blaine. He had a kidney transplant over 27 years ago, and his family feels so thankful to have been given that extra time with him. Mel is survived by his loving wife Sharon, his six children: Gordon, Stephen (Marleen), Tammy (Bob), David, Kevin (Jeanine) and Kim (Trevor) and his 18 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents James and Rhea Lawlor and his granddaughter Claire. A Celebration of his life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, MOUNTAIN HEIGHTS CHAPEL, 175 Rocky Mountain Blvd W, Lethbridge, Alberta on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 4:00 pm with Bishop Kent Earl officiating Friends may meet the family prior to the service from 3:00 to 3:40 pm. If friends and family so wish, donations in Mel's name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada are appreciated.
