
MELBA HARRIETT SHEEN HERGET, beloved wife of the late John H. Herget, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Lethbridge, at the age of 86 years. Melba was born August 21, 1924 in Cardston, Alberta. She was the last surviving child of Moroni and Harriett Sheen. She was predeceased by her sisters: Lucille Vaughn, Louise Sommerfeldt, Helen Sheen, Hazel Steed, Ruth Hovey, and Mary Sheen, and her brothers: Grant, Ivan, Heber, Clarence, Robert, and Lloyd Sheen. Melba married John Herman Herget on April 18, 1940 in the Cardston Alberta Temple, they lived in Stirling, Alberta, and farmed in the Wrentham area. She is survived by her five children: Delton (Mary Lou), Gloria (Richard) Burt, Robert (LaRee), Brent (Tracy), and Cynthia (Wayne) Harris, 29 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law: Florence Herget, Cecile Herget, and Maxine Sheen, and many nieces and nephews. Melba's greatest joy was her husband Johnny and her family. She had a genuine interest in every person and this was seen in her happy and positive nature. She served her church and her community through various callings. Her pioneer heritage was shown in the care of her home, garden and flowers. The legacy she left for her family is her testimony of Jesus Christ, and her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and associated with her. The family would like to give a special thank-you to Dr. Tollestrup and Dr. Wilde, all the caring nurses and the Magrath EMS and all the staff, and her friends at the Magrath Diamond Willow Lodge. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, STIRLING CHAPEL, Stirling, AB on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet the family prior to the service at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment in the Stirling Cemetery.
