MAS (MASATO) SUNADA, beloved husband of Miyo Sunada, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Mas is lovingly remembered by Miyo and his four children: Guy (Joyce), Marc (Beth), Cheryl (John) Penrice, and Jim; his grandchildren: Kimberly, Lindsey, Melanie, Jamie (Travis) Copp, Dana (Brian) Robinson, Steven, Kurt, Matthew, Miya, Robert, and Barrett and seven great grandchildren. Mas is also survived by his sisters Ayako Imahashi and her family and Hideko Ito and her family. He was pre-deceased by his brother Ken in 1973. Mas was born on Lasqueti Island, BC on February 21, 1924 and moved to Surrey, BC in 1927. In 1942, he and his family were relocated to Raymond where he met his sweetheart Miyo. He chased her to Leamington, ON, married her in 1948, and brought her back to farm "Beef & Beets" with him in Raymond. He and Miyo retired to Lethbridge in 1992. Mas was an active member of the Raymond Buddhist Church and the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta. Most recently, he was the Treasurer of the Tonarigumi. In his younger years, Mas was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his later years, he gave up outdoor sports and simply "played the stocks". Mas was known for his wit and humour and always enjoyed a good laugh. An avid reader, he prided himself in "enlightening" everyone with his wisdom and knowledge. He was happiest when his grandchildren and great grandchildren were around him and relished the company of his friends, especially the "Gang". Friends may meet the family on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703 - 13 St N, Lethbridge as well as prior to the service at the Temple on Monday from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA, 470 - 40th St S, Lethbridge, Alberta with Rev. Y. Izumi officiating. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers and koden, donations may be made to the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470 - 40th Street Lethbridge, AB T1J 3Z5.
