
BALDWIN, MARGARET VIOLET (nee Davis) 1924 - 2009 MARGARET VIOLET BALDWIN, born February 6, 1924 at Baltinglas, Ireland, passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, October 2, 2009. She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Alan) Johnston, Roderick (Edna) Baldwin, Vanessa Baldwin, and Esther Baldwin; grandchildren: Samuel (Heather) Johnston, Rachel (Timothy) Frantz, Rebecca (Mitchell) Casson, Sarah (Jonathan) Sangster, and Esther Christina Anderson; and great grandchildren: Lauren and Taylor Johnston, London and Mason Sangster, Antonia and Alexandria Sanchez, and Griffin Casson. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry James Baldwin, and grandchild Michaela Johnston. Margaret was raised in Ireland, and maintained a passion for her Irish heritage throughout her life. As a child she was scholastically brilliant, and was awarded a scholarship to medical school at 16 years of age. She moved to Liverpool, England and married Henry James Baldwin, a pilot in the Royal Air Force in 1942, and they became the parents of four children and resided there until the late 1970's, when they moved to Vancouver, BC. She finally moved with her daughter, Vanessa, to Lethbridge in 2007. Throughout her life, "Vi", as she was known to all, was a truly valiant spirit and a passionate supporter of anyone in need. In England, she pioneered a national fundraising program to provide a dignified retirement for police horses, and she worked tirelessly to bring relief to abused women and children. It was said of her that she was not just a mother to her own children, but to everyone else's children as well! She was passionate over her family and was proud of all their achievements. She loved all animals and was especially fond of gardening. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. Family and friends are invited to a "Wake" at her home, 1810-14 Avenue North, Lethbridge, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. The Funeral Service will be held in Vancouver on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 41 Avenue West Chapel (one block East of Cambie Street). The interment will follow the service in Surrey, BC.
