Our dear Mother, MAE UMBER, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the age of 98. Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Rex (1992) and her granddaughter, Leslie (1994). She will be greatly missed by her three daughters: Doreen (Ernie) Swenson, Beverley Brown, Shari (Tim) Konchak; seven grandchildren: David (Liz), Shelly (Glenn), Patti, Bob, Kristine (Rick), Tracy, Bradley (Kathy); 13 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Mom's life began in Toole, Utah in 1912. At age 5 she moved to Canada with her family and was raised on a farm near Raymond, Alberta. In 1936 she married Dad and moved to Lethbridge. A devoted Mom and Grandmother, she loved nothing more than spending time with her family. Mom was very creative; sewing, crocheting, making quilts for all her grandchildren, gardening and in later life taking college art classes. Her declining health restricted her physical activities but her faith in God never wavered and she continued serving in the LDS Church as long as she could. The friendships formed in The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Relief Society brought her great joy. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at West Highland Centre and Dr. David Stewart for making Mom's final days as comfortable as possible. A special thanks to Faith and Bob Wood for their steadfast and loving support; to Alice Hicken for her many visits; to our cousin, Audrey West who had a special bond with Mom; to cousins: Kay Bysouth, Susan Marshall, Joanne Cairns and Pat Larkam for their love and support and to Denise Williamson, special caregiver and friend. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, with Bishop Greg Peterson officiating. Interment in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge. A Memorial Service to honor Mom will be hosted by her grandchildren at a later date in Surrey, BC.
