FLAIG ALBERT "LLOYD" FLAIG, beloved husband of the late Helen Flaig of Lethbridge, passed away at Legacy Lodge, which he called home for the last 10 months, on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the age of 87 years. He is the loving father of: Don (Adele Caron), Vern (Wanda), Audrey Miller, and Stephen (Mari-Lynn). He is survived by grandchildren: Brad, Cameron, Emilie Hewko (Bryn), Renee, Brandy, Bishop; and great grandchild Chloe Hewko. He is survived by sister Ida Heinz, and brother Ray (Vilma). Lloyd is predeceased by his wife Helen, and sister Bertie. Lloyd was born in Medicine Hat, son of Rose and Emanuel. He grew up in Hilda, Alberta. Lloyd met Helen in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and they raised their four children in Lethbridge. Lloyd was a teacher and principal with Lethbridge Public School District #51. He was an artist, a poet, and a writer. A staunch environmentalist, Lloyd camped and canoed many of the lakes and rivers in the western provinces. Lloyd was a founding member of the Lethbridge Astronomy Society, sharing his love of the heavens with many. As a member of the Lethbridge Horticultural Society, Lloyd took home prizes for his flowers and vegetables, which flourished on the acreage on Broxburn Road. Lloyd was committed to outdoor education. Stories around the campfire, notably The Goatman cycle of tales, kept many children from sleep (and even himself, once!) The Family is grateful for the loving care received from the staff of the Legacy Lodge, North Lethbridge. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the HOLIDAY INN, 2375 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
