Lillian Varty

LILLIAN VARTY passed away peacefully on August 31 at the age of 91 years in Lethbridge, Alberta surrounded by her loving family. Left to cherish and honour her life are her three children; Larry (Linda) Varty of Stirling, Sharon (Michael) Herrington and Jim (Marilynn) Varty both of Lethbridge, 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband Allan "Bob" Varty, her brother John Hargraves, her two sisters; Mae Dent of Innisfail, Doris LaBelle of Creston, B.C. and a granddaughter Tanya Moana Varty. Lillian was born in Taber on January 10, 1920, the third of four children born to Susan Syme Hill and James Beaconsfield Hargraves. She married Allan Robert Leonard Varty at her parent's home in Taber on September 3, 1940. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Savior and followed him. Her life was centered in acts of service in the church, the community and in the lives of her family. She warmed countless hearts with her beautiful handmade quilts. She enjoyed giving more than receiving. Lillian was a determined and a courageous woman who loved the beauties of nature, good literature and music. She was dignified, cultured and refined. Lillian will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her but she will never truly be gone as there is a piece of her freely given to all of us, her family. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2223 - 6A Ave. N. Lethbridge at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet the family prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment to follow in the Taber Cemetery.
