
LEONARD JACK HARKER, beloved husband of Peggy Marilyn Harker of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the age of 87 years. He is the loving father of: Orin Leonard (Valerie) of Calgary, Jacqueline Gail (George Schow) of Medicine Hat, and Carmen Rae (Conway Brewerton) of Lethbridge. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Benjamin (Caroline) Harker, Bradley (Andrea) Harker, Michael Harker, Christopher Harker, David (Jessica) Schow, Jonathan (Sylvie) Schow, Joseph (Jennyfer) Schow, Cydney (Jordan) Van Orman, Daniel Schow, Benjamin Schow, Lee (Kristy) Brewerton, Christina (David) Steed, Elizabeth (Nick) Shields, Melissa (Scott) Boehme, Laura (Quinn) Watt, Kathryn Anne Brewerton, and John Brewerton; and 11 great grandchildren. Jack was born (September 22, 1922) and raised in Magrath. He joined the Canadian Air Force and flew heavy bombers over Germany during WWII. On November 2, 1949 he married Peggy Bullock in the Cardston Temple. He later became the Manager of the Lethbridge Flying Club. He joined Transport Canada and lived in Ottawa for 35 years. He retired as Director of Flight Training and Air Regulations in the Federal Government. He was an active member of the LDS Church, and served in many capacities including cub scouts, youth programs, Bishop and a member of the Stake Presidency. After retirement in 2000, he and Peggy returned to Magrath. Jack especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to fly, work on his hobby farm, restore engines, tractors, and all mechanical things, and was an excellent builder; remodelling many of their homes (and their children's homes). Jack will be greatly missed by his many friends and loving family. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Lethbridge Stake Centre, 2410-28 Street South, Lethbridge. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Friday evening, December 4, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON FUNERAL HOME, 327-10 Street South, Lethbridge, or prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
