JOSEPH TED HARKER, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the age of 80 years, holding hands with his one true love, Karma. Besides his loving wife, Karma, Ted is survived by his son, Monte (Shainne) Harker of Magrath, his daughters Valerie (Randy) Smith of Cardston, AB, and Cheryl (Dave) DaCosta of Langley, B.C. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ryan Harker (Danna), Jesse Harker (Melissa), Stephanie Harker, T.J. Smith, Kandice Banack (Brooker), David DaCosta (Roxanne), Brittaney DaCosta and Brianna DaCosta. His three great grandchildren: Daymon Harker, Kynsli Banack and Haylee DaCosta. Ted is survived by his brother Golden Harker (Arlene) and Ruth Barber (Bob). He was predeceased by his daughter, Drena and brothers Blaine (Jill), Lee (Jean), Blair, Doug (Mildred) and sister, Jean Woodger (Wilson). He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and other extended family and numerous friends. Ted was born in Magrath, Alberta on August 22, 1929 to Earl and Elma Harker. He was the youngest son of eight children. Ted spent his school years in Magrath. While growing up he played on the Zenith A basketball team - but it was hockey that he loved the most. In his younger years he rode as a jockey for Judge Bingham and raced his own horses. Ted was a born salesman, and was involved in sales for all of his working career. It is rumoured that he actually did sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo; we are trying to track this story down. He owned his own Real Estate business for many years and won various sales awards. He has been involved in the sale or purchase of a great many of the older homes in Magrath and Raymond. It was a well-known fact, that Ted's word was as good as any contract signed and sealed by a lawyer. Ted loved adventure and in 1985 he and Karma picked up and moved to Hawaii returning in the summers to visit family and run their Driving Range on the corner of Mayor Magrath Drive & Scenic Drive. In 1992, the prairies beckoned to him and he returned to his roots, Magrath. He enjoyed walking and was a common sight walking around town. In 2004, Ted suffered a major stroke while holidaying in California which rendered him among other ailments, blind and with short term memory loss. Karma has been caring for Ted in their home till his death. Karma has brought new meaning to "Stand by Your Man". We are comforted in knowing that Dad is with Drena and that they are enjoying themselves without the physical disabilities that plagued them in this life. Friends may meet the family on Friday evening, August 27 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge or prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Magrath Stake Centre, Magrath, AB with Bishop Vince Harker officiating. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.
