JACOB KLASSEN 1914-2013 JACOB KLASSEN , born March 8 1914, in Chortitza, Russia, passed away peacefully October 4, 2013 in Lethbridge Alberta. Jake is survived by his siblings: Bertha Patkau, Anne Harder, Leona Dick, John T. Klassen, Waldemar Klassen and Irene Bergen and his precious friend and companion Helen Jorgensen. His surviving children are: Jack (Rita) Klassen, Richard (Rhonda) Klassen, and Beverly (Mike) Hall. Jake was predeceased by his wife Katherine and his son Donald, his grandson Darren, his daughter-in-law Kathleen (Richard), and his former wife Anne. Although the oldest of eleven adult siblings, he was predeceased by his brothers Henry, Rudy Enns and Leonard, and his sister Mary McLaughlin, as well as Gerhard and Ernest who died in infancy. Jake immigrated to Canada in 1923 and settled in Southern Alberta. He was a very active and contributing member of the Vauxhall community where he and his wife Katherine (Katie) farmed and raised their four children. The family moved from Vauxhall to Sanford, Manitoba in 1958 to establish Diamond K Farms. Jake, Katie and Bev returned to Southern Alberta in 1969. The family is grateful to the staff at St. Therese Villa for making Jake's life comfortable and happy. A celebration of Jake's life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 10 at The Galt Museum in Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to one of the following: Covenant Health (St. Therese Villa), The Mennonite Central Committee Disaster Services, or the Alzheimer's Society.
