IVAN MILLAR passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the age of 81 after a short stay at the St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit. He leaves behind his wife Lillian, with whom he recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Also left are his four children: Michelle (Allan) Jacobs, Sharon (Steve) Webb, Murray (Karen) Millar and Lavonne (Neil) Herbst; five grandchildren: Alex, Andrew, Alyson, McKensie and Cassandra; and two brothers, Don (Betty) and Gordon. Ivan was born in Ribstone, Alberta on February 23, 1928. He attended university in Iowa, worked in the NWT, and was a Canadian Armed Forces Pilot, before finally settling in Lethbridge as a school teacher. He worked a number of years as the Principal of Gilbert Paterson School. Ivan was actively involved in his church The community of Christ as a minister, were he organized youth camps, retreats and provided support to his congregation. Ivan's life touched many people and his dedication and support of teenagers and youth changed many lives. He will be remembered most for his sense of humour, his integrity and his ongoing love for his family and his wife, Lillian.
