IRENE NELSON GLINES SMITH passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 91 years of age after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease at the Edith Cavell Care Center in Lethbridge. She is survived by one daughter Marlene (Robert) Brattberg of Withrow, Alberta, son Roger of Lethbridge, son Marlowe (Darlene) of Lethbridge, and son Shane (Gwen) of Raymond; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and 4 sisters: Lois Schow, Alice Orr, Andress Warren, and Jerry (Harold) Moore. Mom is predeceased by her husband Marvin Smith, her parents Harvey and Javanta Glines, 4 sisters: Beatrice, Cleo, Glenna and Dorothy, and 2 brothers: Bruce and Grant. Irene was born January 8, 1919 at Welling, Alberta. When she was seven years old the family moved to Glenwood, Alberta, where she grew up. She left school at about 16 years old and went to work for various families in the area, staying close to home to help her mother. Our mother loved to sew and most of our clothes were hand made. Mom moved to Lethbridge later in life where she pursued her love of dancing, card playing and watching her grandchildren play in their favourite sports. Mother will be greatly missed by her family and our thanks to the Edith Cavell Care Center for everything done in her final days. Friends and family may pay their respects from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2010 at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge. A Graveside Service will follow at the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Southern Alberta, 1254-3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0J9.
