
HELEN JEAN WILSON OLIVER, beloved wife of the late Norman McClure (Clure) Oliver, passed away peacefully in Picture Butte Health Centre on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the age of 104 years. Helen was born December 26, 1904 in Walkerton, Ontario, to Thomas Wilson and Annie Elizabeth Carswell Wilson. She had one brother, George Wilson. Helen moved with her family from Ontario to Medicine Hat. It was there that she completed High School. She moved to Calgary in 1923 to attend Calgary Normal School and received her teaching certification. Helen taught at several schools: Rush Lake, Altson, Bulmer and Crescent School (Dorothy Dalgliesh). It was while she was teaching at Bulmer that she met Clure. They were married in Vancouver, BC on August 8, 1928. Helen and Clure were blessed with a daughter, Patricia Anne, Born December 14, 1930. They lived and farmed in the Picture Butte area before moving into Picture Butte in the 1950's. Helen ran a well ordered home. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Their family loved traveling and spent many happy summers driving to various locales in their camper. Following retirement they enjoyed traveling more extensively with their friends. Helen and Anne continued traveling after Clure's passing on August 22, 1979. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Clure, her daughter, Anne (November 23, 2003) and her brother, George (January 10, 2009). We would like to thank Helen's doctors, as well as the staff at the Piyami Lodge and Piyami Place, for their years of care. Thanks also to all who took time to visit Helen. Friends may meet the family on Saturday, January 17, 2009 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge. Graveside Service to follow at the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the charity of your choice.
