
HAZEL MAXINE SPACKMAN ERICKSON was born on June 15, 1925 in Stirling, Alberta to Thomas Alfred Spackman and Amy Clarissa Neel. She passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 31, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Hazel grew up in Stirling and completed her schooling there. She married Dr. Evan D. (Bill) Erickson on July 29, 1943 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Together they raised 3 sons and 5 daughters. She was a loving, patient, kind mother and a devoted, supportive and encouraging wife. She was an excellent homemaker and a skilled cook and seamstress. She enjoyed reading, swimming, camping, and especially water skiing with her family. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served diligently in many callings from Primary worker to Assistant Temple Matron in two temples. After retirement, Bill and Hazel served a mission to the Johannesburg South Africa Temple. After returning, they served in the Cardston Alberta Temple Presidency for 3 years. Hazel lived a full and rich life. She was an influence for good wherever she went and with those whom she associated. She excelled at whatever she did. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. Hazel was predeceased by parents Thomas Alfred and Amy Spackman, brothers Melvin and Junior Spackman, sister Joyce Jensen, daughter Jennifer Cranfield, son Patrick Erickson and granddaughters Jessica and Nicole Pitcher. She is survived by her husband Bill, son-in-law Tim Cranfield, daughter Louise (James) Cook, daughter-in-law Margaret Erickson, daughter Carol (Robert) Sherwood, daughter Barbara (Scott) Oliver, son Tim Erickson, son Scott (Susan) Erickson, daughter Janele (Grant) Pitcher, 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family expresses their thanks to the staff of the Lethbridge Regional Hospital Unit 4B and Dr. Cal Stewart. At Hazel's request, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund in care of Bishop Richard Hill, in lieu of flowers. Friends may meet the family on Sunday, February 3, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, or prior to the service at the church on Monday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Lethbridge East Stake Centre, 4105 Forestry Avenue South, with Bishop Richard Hill officiating. Interment to follow in the Stirling Cemetery.
