HAROLD OLAF WILLIAM ANDERSON "...be a friend to man" June 20, 1917 - Sept 4, 2011 With tender hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, Harold W. Anderson, on Sunday, Sept 4, in Milk River. Surrounded by family, "Papa" returned to Heaven. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 70 years, Kathleen Anderson; his daughter, Wendy (Ken) Brown; his 8 grandchildren: Lori Brown, Aaron (Christine) Brown, Traci (Joshua) Sherwood, Michael Brown, Kathleen Brown, Peter (Kelly) Brown, Chantelle Brown, Nola (James) Haynes and his 3 great grandchildren: Taylor, Nathan and Andrew Sherwood; his sister, Mildred Thompson; his brother, Darrell (Jan) Anderson, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Harold was predeceased by his parents William and Mabel (Lefley) Anderson; his sister Margaret "Peggy" Wicks; brothers-in-law Bert Wicks and Leonard Thompson. Born in Lethbridge, Harold lived his full life in Milk River and area. He married Kathleen Matkin on September 25, 1941. They began their life together on a farm 25 miles east of Milk River, bought the Eber farm 6 miles east of Milk River and in 1991 moved into town. In his 94 years, Harold made lifelong friends at home and in Mesa, Arizona where he and Kay spent 37 winters. Their door was always open and all were welcome. It was important to Harold to live in a "house by the side of the road and be a friend to man." Harold enjoyed visiting, hunting, curling, square dancing, travelling with good friends, playing crib and giving countless hours of community service. His dry wit brought smiles to our faces. The son of homesteaders, Harold spent countless hours working the land, practicing mental math skills that stayed with him throughout his life. A lifelong farmer, he could fix just about anything, and never met a piece of pie he didn't like. What good memories he gained over 28 years of driving the school bus! He loved his family, his farm, his friends and his community. He left a legacy of decency, integrity and honesty. His word was his bond. Without him, we feel a hole in our hearts. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Coutts, AB on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11a.m. Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
