
GORDON LYMAN STEVENS, beloved husband of Rae Stevens, passed away at the St. Michael's Palliative Care Center May 11, 2009 at the age of 75. Gordon is survived by his wife, Rae, his sons, Lee of Orem, Utah, Kim (Marilyn) of Okotoks, Craig (Carla) of Springville, Utah, daughters Lori of Camrose, Rita (Vaughn) Munro of Edmonton, 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Elaine Meisner of Taber and Pauline Nalder of Lethbridge, brother Kent (Vicki) of Medicine Hat, brothers and sisters-in-law Vera & Buzz Layton, Edna Haynes and Alice Haynes, good friend Kay Hadlington and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents Lyman "Slim" and Geneva Stevens, brothers-in-law Melvin, Floyd, Grant and Lynn Haynes and Clarence Meisner, sisters-in-law Frances King and Eva Haynes. Gordon was born on February 8, 1934 in Taber, Alberta. He was raised in Barnwell and educated in Barnwell and Taber. He married his high school sweetheart on June 23, 1954 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. In 1956 they moved to Lethbridge where he joined the Lethbridge Police Force and served for 33 A½ years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sargent. He enjoyed doing woodwork with his biggest and most satisfying project being an addition and renovation to their home. He was quite competitive whether it was in a track & field event (in high school) or a game of crib or canasta. He loved to socialize with family & friends and they will all have good memories of fun times spent together. He & Rae were long-time members of the Bridgetowner Good Sams and enjoyed the many camping locations and activities. Square Dancing was another activity he enjoyed. He was active in his Church, serving in many ways including a mission to Indiana and 8 years as a Temple ordinance worker. He had a strong testimony of his Savior and it showed in the way he lived his life. Friends may meet the family on Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, or prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Lethbridge East Stake Centre, 4105 Forestry Avenue South, Lethbridge with Bishop Doug Wilde officiating.
