George Wilmot

GEORGE ALBERT WILMOT passed away in Lethbridge on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the age of 81 years, beloved husband of Barbara Harvey Wilmot of Coaldale. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four daughters: Linda Wilmot, Karen (Rod) Gough, Lori (Paul) Beattie, and Connie (John) Porter; 16 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents Roy and Rayma, his brother Lyle, and grandson Mark Beattie. George was born in Lethbridge on December 31, 1928, and lived his life on the same farm his grandmother homesteaded. He attended White School and graduated from McNally High School. George started farming at a young age with his father and brother in Broxburn. He played baseball, broomball, and enjoyed curling. He also played a mean game of pool. On November 8, 1952 George married Barbara Harvey and continued to live and work on the farm. He also worked for several years as a field-man for the Alberta Sugar Factory. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in several callings including Bishop. After retiring, one of his favourite callings was that of an Alberta Temple worker. He remembered fondly those he met and served with there. As his health started to fail, he enjoyed short trips to Hawaii, Utah and Arizona, but nothing made George happier than to be on his own patch of dirt. George loved his land and inspected its' corners every day. He enjoyed a good spring burn and keeping the grass mowed. He was generous and kind, had a good sense of humor, and was a friend to many. The time he spent with his grandchildren was special to George. He is appreciated and loved and will be missed. Our family wishes to express our gratitude on Dad's behalf to the Coaldale EMS for their dedication and kindness. Friends may meet the family on Friday evening, August 6 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge; or prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. The Funeral Service will be held at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Coaldale Chapel, 2216-21 A. Avenue, Coaldale, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2010 with Bishop Les Gugyelka officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
