FUMIKO (OKUMA) CHIBA passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at St. Therese Villa, in Lethbridge, at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her husband Kiyoo (Ken), her four children: Leonard, Darlene, Bryan and Brenda (Cal); two grandchildren James (Heather) and Hilary, as well as two great grandchildren Madea and Brigid. She is also survived by her sister Amy Tashiro (Sami), sister in-law Setsuko (the late Kaz Okuma), and cousin Ken Okuma (Mariko) and numerous nieces and nephews. On April 22, 1925 Fumi was born in Mission City, B.C. In 1942, she and her family were relocated to Alberta and eventually settled in Vauxhall. On April 25, 1945 she married Kiyoo and for the first nineteen years of their life together, they raised their family and farmed potatoes. In 1964, they started GeM Land Motors where Fumi was the garage's business manager and bookkeeper. After 17 years, the family business was sold and in 1992 she and Kiyoo retired to Lethbridge. Fumi was a wonderful role model in that everything she lent her hand to, she did well. She was a very good cook and baker, an accomplished seamstress, and an avid gardener whose flower gardens were always greatly admired. Fumi was known as a bright, kind lady who liked to laugh. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her family. A private family service has taken place. The Chiba family respectfully requests that NO KODEN be offered. If desired, friends may make a donation in Fumiko's memory to St. Therese Villa, 253 Southgate Blvd. South, Lethbridge, T1K 2S1 or the Lethbridge Alzheimer's Society, #402, 740-4 Avenue South, Lethbridge T1J 0N9.
